Miss Rina Bambina, born and raised where? Now living in? And may we ask of a lady her age? That’s like a Gazillion questions right there.
I’m a German Fraeulein – born and raised in Saarbruecken, Germany, near the French border. This is where I still work and live today. Age exists only on paper, and there stands the number 25, but I have the feeling that I’m feeling a different age in my heart and my mind every day.
Tell us, what made you think like … “hmm, I want to be a model” and when and why did this interest of yours emerge? Have you been interested in photography from childhood?
I can’t remember one true moment in which I decided to become a model. I played in the theater of my hometown since I was a little girl, so I always liked to change characters and act in different roles. My first steps into photography took place as my boyfriend got a camera some years ago.
According to the motto “Just stand here and smile” I became his guinea pig while learning new styles and techniques in photography.
I liked seeing photos of myself, especially those where I wore my favorite dress, which was an original 50s dress made by my grandmother. And so the fairy tale began…
How did you feel when you did your first ever fashion show or photo shoot?
I have to admit that I felt a little lost. When I began doing photo shoots, I didn’t know any other models or photographers nearby. I had to try different styles with different people before I found my place in shooting 50s and pin up photos. Now I’m more than happy that I have found my true passion.
What did your parents first think of you being a model and where they supportive?
They had mixed feelings when I first told them that I was doing photo shoots with quasi strangers at a young age. But when they saw my first successive publications online and in magazines, they became more and more interested in and my work and supportive.
What’s your motto or life advice that you life by?
That’s a tough question that I cannot answer in one sentence. All I can say is that I’m learning every day. As I meet new people, see new places and make new experiences, I’m learning so much about life and about myself.
Do you have any advice as to how to ensure good pictures every time?
Work hard – always be prepared for a photo shoot. As silly as it sounds, I am standing in front if the mirror practicing model poses.
Be yourself – just act normal and don’t force yourself into a direction that you aren’t comfortable with.
Have fun – a photo shoot is a great way to express yourself and to work together with talented people.
If a young girl wanted to be a model what would your advice for them be?
First, it is important that you feel comfortable with showing your body and sometimes your soul in photos.
Always think about what your message to the world will be.
Then, as I said, practice is the key to get more confident. Don’t be frustrated when some ideas don’t turn out as desired. This is a good way to learn and improve your skills.
What best describes the alternative subcultures in your part of the world? Are those accepted ways of living where you’re from?
The Pinup Style isn’t that popular in the small town that I’m living in. Sometimes, it’s hard to find nice clothes or accessories from that period. But it has its benefit too. In a small town you get together with the same people that share your passion more often. You build up a team and get to know each other very well. Furthermore, you are always attracting attention by wearing a retro look on the streets.
What is a Pinup Girl to you? Describe to us the essence of Pinup Modelling.
In my opinion, a Pinup Girl is someone who is proud to be a woman. Those girls play with the cliche of being innocent but some kind of sexy at the same time. They can fascinate you with a single blink of the eye but they seem to be aloof.
Where can we get to see you in the near future? You got any Magazine Photo Shoots planned?
Sadly, there aren’t any magazines in Germany that accept Pinup Photos. But I try to publish my photos in all parts of the world. I’m not only making photos for being published. I’m still happy for every like and comment on my fan page or homepage.
But there is a big German Pinup Contest taking place which I will try to participate. Fingers crossed!
