We would like to know a little of miss Sophie Lamour. Who is she, where does she live and what does she do?
Miss Sophie Lamour is an Italian actress, of Roman origin, currently living in Liguria to Tuscany, with an overwhelming passion for the cinema… but falls madly in love burlesque when she watch on the big screen “Moulin Rouge!” Baz Lurman, a true work of cinematic art that mixes perfectly all the elements that must be love at first sight: surprise, passion, vision and dreams. From there I studied more and more ‘at the bottom of this art which then exploded recently in Italy, keeping true to my origin: the theater, giving more importance to research on the character and construction of an alter ego. Burlesque is a magical world where you can create dreams to share with the public.
In all this I have always loved and collected images of Pin Up and began to venerate them with the great films of the 40s and 50s. By the time I saw the image of the ideal woman that I had in mind was passed to the current standards imposed by the media… so I preferred to idolize the Pin Up instead of the supermodels. So much so that my first book in Italian is dedicated to them “The Real Book of Pin Up“, which enhances the style and ultra-feminine curved women of the past such as Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, Rita Hayworth.
My love of burlesque has also led me to teach and now I am working to form new companies extraordinary women who want to try their hand at this fabulous dream journey. And to him I reserved my latest work, my new book in Italian “I Love Burlesque“.
As we understand, you’re both a burlesque performer and a pinup girl model. Is this something you combine on stage, and does it help your performances by at the same time being a model?
It’s a successful marriage, why be a Pin Up Model allows you to experiment and play with your image, allowing you to figure out which style would fit better, the importance of expressions, and the search for the costumes. Also become a doll in the hands of photographers, so it is also a way to let go and trust a critical eye. While the burlesque, you can ‘imagine how that same image, but moving in front of an audience that wants to surprise and entertain. One thing complements the other.
What is a Pinup Girl to you? Describe to us the essence of Pinup Modelling.
The Pin Up for me is simply the essence of femininity that is tattooed or not, whether rebel or good taste, sweet or unconventional, is the idea of a woman real proud of their curves, ironic and provocative, but always the protagonist and never object.
Tell us more about your shows, what are your main themes?
As I said, I’m a movie freak, so ‘my shows are inspired by the film more’ like: such as the last show inspired entirely by all the female characters in Tim Burton; eg before moving to the romantic, elegant atmospheres of the Far East with my interpretation of the geisha, or dances with evanescent feather fans, until my passion characters of darkness … I am always in constant experimentation!
This is something that has been on my mind for a long time, what is burlesque and historically how did it all start?
The perfect burlesque’s recipe is one third of theater, dance a third, a third of the cabaret served with a spoonful of malice and sensuality, a splash of irony effective, twists artigianali..il all expertly blended with originality.
