Tell us briefly about who you are, and where you are from and really want to know the story of miss Vilmarouge.
You all know me under my pseudonym Vilmarouge but my real name is Monika Dmochowska and I come from Poland. The person you see on my photos is an ordinary psychology student who loves retro style, history and is a real bookworm. I am in my fourth year of studies and I also do volunteering at an orphanage.
Tell us, what made you think like… “hmm, I want to be a model” and when and why did this interest of yours emerge? Have you been interested in photography from childhood?
In my teens I was interested in modeling but only from theoretical side. I loved watching photo sessions and videos of my favourite models to follow their style. It was a great inspiration and probably helped me in my future when I became a professional model.
I never planned to become a model but some photographers in my city noticed me and my adventure with modelling began.
From the beginning I preferred pin-up style sessions since those are related to what I am interested in and my preferred style of clothes. I found it to be a graceful theme in the art of photography because I knew the work of artists such as Viva van Story or Shannon Brooke.
How did you feel when you did your first ever fashion show or photo shoot?
I was very nervous but excited as well. My approach was very ambitious one and tried to work the best I could.
Who was your role model as a child an how did that help in being a model?
When I was a child I did not find the fashion world interesting at all. When I was five I wanted to be Sailor Moon but I do not think it had any great influence on me :D As a teenager I got my inspiration from Agyness Deyn, Vlada Roslyakova and Gemma Ward. I liked their fairness, the ease with which each one of them poses and their natural charm.
What beauty tips do you swear by?
Skin care is what is most important to me. I use cosmetics with sun protecting factor all year round. I am also a huge fan of natural cosmetics without propylparaben, preservatives or fragrances. I use unrefined shea butter, coconut butter and argan oil to take care of both, my hair and skin. Once in a while I perform an exfoliation with malic acid.
What’s your motto or life advice that you life by?
“The only one that makes no mistakes is the one that does nothing”
I always try to realize my objectives the best I can but I allow myself to make mistakes. With such an active way of life I live it is impossible to be perfect in every day and in every situation. I notice those imperfections, think about them and try to avoid such mistakes in the future.
What best describes the alternative subcultures in your part of the world? Are those accepted ways of living where you’re from?
The scene in Poland looks great as far as punk or metal are concerned.Things are not so good with rockabilly or psychobilly scenes. Fans of those genres need to enjoy their music at home as there are not many such events or concerts. As far as tolerance is concerned, I travelled to many festivals and concerts with my friends and never faced any discrimination. This is very subjective of course and obviously there are many people who think about subculture in a stereotypical and disapproving way. I do not consider this way of thought to be a very popular one though.
A desolate island and a boat without gas… oops… Who do you want to be rescued by and why just that person?
As a huge Game of Thrones fan I’d choose Jon Snow. He would be my prince in a black armor on a white… dire wolf ;). So, now you know who is my hero.
What is a Pinup Girl to you? Describe to us the essence of Pinup Modelling.
This kind of modeling allows to present many aspects of femininity. Pin-up girl is confident, has charm and gracefulness, is attractive and aware of herself. On the other hand, she has class, is not vulgar or pretentious. She does not need to be naked to be sexy and a good model can achieve that. I love the inspiration I get from the past decades, melt retro and fairy syles, show emotions on my photos. As a result, modeling is not only a job but also my passion, style of life and a way to express myself. Retro is a magnificent theme in photography that can be presented in many interesting ways. It will remain beautiful and is timeless.
